Picture Book Craft: How to Make a Paper Cup Paddington

PB Craft Paddington

Paddington was one of my childhood favourites and with his recent revival I couldn’t resist creating a picture book craft for him.

Step 1: To make your own paper cup Paddington you will need the following items:

  • 1 paper cup
  • 1 sheet brown card
  • 1 sheet red card
  • Small piece of black card (if not use brown)
  • Black wool
  • 1 brown felt tip pen
  • 1 black felt tip pen
  • String
  • 1 square of royal blue felt
  • 1 straw
  • 2 googly eyes
  • 1 mini raisin box
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Step 2: Place the cup upside-down on the table and colour the top half (narrow end) brown.

Step 3: Stick on 2 googly eyes, then cut out an oval shape from the black card to stick on the cup as a nose. Use a piece of black wool for the mouth.

Step 4: Start to make the hat. Draw and cut out shapes for the brim and top of the hat. You will need two of each shape.

Step 5: Stick the brims and the tops together with glue and draw round the edges with a black pen to highlight. Staple the sides together at the edges.

Step 6: Cut approx a 26x8cm rectangle from the felt. Fold one third over at the top for the coat collar, then wrap it round the wider end of the cup and stick down with glue.

Step 7: Make the “Please look after this bear. Thank You” tag with the brown card and string. Tie round the cup under the duffle coat collar.

Step 8: To make the coat toggles, cut two 1 cm lengths from the straw, wrap with felt and stick down with glue. Tie with brown wool and stick to front of coat.

Step 9: Cut out arms and paws from brown paper. Stick felt on for sleeves on arms. Attach the paws and arms with glue.

Step 10: To make the suitcase, find a used mini raisin box and cover with the brown card. Cut holes in the top to push and stick down the string for the handle.

Step 11: Place the hat on the narrow end of the cup to complete your paper cup Paddington.

Now Paddington is ready to go on his adventures with you as you read the book. Have fun!
